Being a fashion junkie, I'm prone to be found flipping through a magazine filled with glamorous photos of paradigmatic models sporting designer clothes that are virtually Deities to any fashion lover. Being so wrapped up in the fantasy that the Glossies sell, I sometimes forget one of the main reasons why I was so intrigued by fashion was because of personal style.
Over the year+ that I had this blog, I forgot that developing my own personal style was the main goal of my blog. I can definitely say that my style now, compared to my style when I first started the blog, is very different it's not where I want it to be just yet, but I definitely do feel confident in what I wear now.
I recently obtained a copy of Scott Schuman's new book, The Sartorialist, and just flipping through the pages reminded me of one of the many reasons why the world of fashion drew me in. Fashion, or rather, Style, is very much about personal expression, and it really doesn't matter if you can afford a Deity named piece of clothing, or something from a second hand store. As long as you feel completely comfortable, confident, and sexy in it, it'll look great. Fashion, is more of a fantasy, a beautiful fantasy, but a fantasy.
Flipping through the tome of The Sartorialist I remember what I forgot. Personal Style is always developing, and growing.
Anyway I wanted to share some of the images from The Sartorialist, the book, that I found really inspiring and beautiful (& I do encourage you to click and enlarge, these photos are definitely worth it).

Un Animal De Fiesta!
This coming week is Homecoming Week at my school, which will no doubt mean an agglomeration ($5 dollar word right there!) of crazy outfits concluding with the Homecoming Game, something we will most likely lose....our football team isn't that great, and then the Homecoming Dance, an event I live for, I'm kind of un animal de fiesta! Which doesn't make that much sense in Spanish......hmm....anyway the whole "Depressing Grey Because It's The Recession" trend is something I'm exploring right now in terms of what I'll wear for Homecoming, and just in general as well....it gives me a chance to play with textures:

Nothing is quite set in stone just yet, but I'm liking where the outfit is going right now..my one worry is that I'll look like a banker. I'm in search for a light colored shirt to possibly wear instead of the Safari-esque shirt that I'm sporting in the photos above, hopefully a pale pink; my semi-not-really-we're-just-taking-a-photo-together date is wearing pink, so she asked if I could find something pink to wear. I'll have to see it on..but in my head it looks like it could work.
Now let's listen to some legit music, ogle at how good Rihanna looks, jump up and down with excitement when Jay-Z mentions Maison Martin Margiela, and make "Ima Let You Finish" jokes when Kanye starts rapping:

I Couldn't Do It, I Just Couldn't
I tried to stay away from blogging, in order to focus more on schoolwork and my personal life. But I just couldn't! I found myself looking at images, experiencing fashion moments, experiencing music moments, and just experiencing moments that I wanted to blog about soo much! So I've decided to revise my Blogging Hiatus. During the week, there will be no new blogs, but the weekends, it's free reign! depending on how much homework I have. It's my senior year, and homework and college applications are my top priority. But I will definitely get back to writing for Pencil, because I truly do miss it. Anyway, I leave you with an image from VMan 15, one of my favorite men's lifestyle magazines.
I don't know who these men are, because I haven't gotten around to reading this specific article yet. But what they were wearing caught my eye. I just felt like their style was very effortless, and careless (i'm saying careless with an intent of positive connotations). And they just looked cool! I especially like the style of the man on the left, the tucked in tie just adds something visually interesting, that probably wouldn't work in any other setting. anyway, i'm off to bitch and moan about all the homework I have to finish. night.

The End of An Era
Fashion is something I love, live, and breath. It's something that I discovered a little more than two years ago. And I couldn't be more happy that i did. Through my exploration of fashion I stumbled upon the blogging world, filled with bloggers that shared the same passionate fervor for fashion as I did. And I was determined to be a contributing member of that society. And for a time, I was. For a little more than one year, i devoted every free time I had to this blog. Researching content, and giving my opinions on other peoples blog. It was something that was important to me. But as I got older, and entered my final year of High School, my desired devotion to this blog became less and less attainable, as I began to take on more responsibilities at home, and at school. Blogging is something I love to do, and without a doubt, will be somethings I will get back to someday. I'm at a time in my life, where I have other personal things to deal with. And if i can't devoted the time and passion I feel this blog needs to be the best it can be, I rather retain myself from blogging until I can. You haven't read the last of S.D. but for now, it's time to take a much needed Intermission.

BUSY!!!
So i've been extremely busy with school and work, that i didn't have much time to attend to the blog..which makes me feel like a failure as a blogger. but unfortunately the demands of senior year are much more difficult than i anticipated..and coupled with scratching for extra hours at work, helping found the United Artist Club (a club of artist (writers, poets, painters, etc.) that meet and try to think of ways to bring art to other people on campus, and to bring together the the community of my high school through art.....i'm a bit excited for what we have planned), and becoming minion to the Stage Manager of the play that's being produced.........i have very little free time. But i'm trying to keep it all together, and find time to blog...at least once a week......anyways........ONTO FASHION WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!

The first day of the Srping shows was today, and so far, i see a bit of a kaleidoscopic trend forming. Of the designers that showed today, my favorite would have to be the designs of a Mara Hoffman, who presented her collection alongside, brands Nicholas K, and Whitney Eve. Mara Hoffman uses AMAZING prints, and that's one of the reasons why they were one of my favorites today......Here are some of my favorite pieces from the collection:

Bombing @ a Neighboring School....
Today 2 pipe bombs were set off at a Hillsdale High School, a High School that is in my district. The perpetrator was caught, and taken into custody before he could use the 8 other pipe bombs, chainsaw, and 2ft sword that he brought with him, and no one was reported as injured. Though the event didn't take place at my school, it still shook a lot of student up, that something that could have possibly been extremely violent, happened so close to home. Even though I recognize the seriousness of the event, i still think that seen from a certain light, the event is quite comedic. For example, who bring a 2ft sword to a school....and the way that the perpetrator was caught is quite comedic when you think about it too, he was tackled by a teacher, and the principal. Thinking of all these comedic scenarios, and comedy sketches this event could turn into, made me think of the fine line between comedy gold, and ethic disregard. Is comedy free from ethics? or does comedy have ethics, and the line separating comedy, to being ethically inappropriate very thin?............just a thought...
Edit:i just found out that i attended middle school w/the man who attacked Hillsdale High School.....and i remember him...
